What’s a Dakine

DAkine

Dakine founder Rob Kaplan was a Maui based surfer who often found himself fixing other surfers broken leashes when he decided to develop his own made from durable materials and stitching that would last, and with that ethos Dakine was born!

Moving from strength to strength Dakine originally developed their now famous Heli Pack? for a friend who required a durable backpack to carry his essentials when on the Mountain and nothing more!

The now infamous Dakine Heli Snow Pack

As the advent of windsurfing in the early-80s moved the board sports landscape Dakine moved with it shifting there base of operations from Hawaii to Hood River, Oregon expanding their portfolio from everything water such as harnesses and surfboard bags to working with the exploding ski/snowboard in Mt. Hood to develop quality snow apparel, boardbags and accessories!

As a company they understand there is no need to spend their days in a lab trying to figure out what people will need 10 or 20 years from now. When there are plenty of problems that waste precious mountain or water time right now! And the best way to find them is to get out on the mountain and in the water yourself. Live it. Build it. Test it. Improve it. Then do it all over again next season.

Respect is built into every Dakine product!

Dakine has always had an eye on sustainability from the very start understanding that the land and the sea are more than just our playground. These places are our sanctuary and where we find escape, freedom, and connection. As such they ensure that they are always working to reduce that impact their products have while still providing their trusted durability and functionality.

One of our favourite products the Dakine Party Bucket

Located at the base of Mt. Hood, Oregon, Dakine builds and develops backpacks, travel bags, accessories, outerwear and clothing for people who love to surf, snowboard, skateboard, mountain bike, ski, windsurf, kiteboard and travel.
