Sometimes the best way to deal with insecurities is to face them head on. That’s what 23-year-old Mahogany Geter is doing. 

Mahogany, from Knoxville, USA, suffers from lymphedema, a medical condition which means her Body doesn’t flush fluids out property, meaning one of her legs is much larger than the average. 

At its largest, Mahogany’s leg weighs a third of her 300lb total body weight.

There is no cure, and the excess fluid Mahogany’s left leg can only be eased with physiotherapy and lymphatic drainage massage.

For years Mahogany was ashamed of the way she looked, would hide away, and insist on photos of her only be taken from the waist up. 

‘As a child I never felt pretty, I used to think God had cursed me. I felt ugly, like a freak of nature and cried in private so many times I did feel alone because I thought I was like the only person in the world to have this condition. Growing up with it of course, I was depressed, and I felt like pretty much like God had cursed me and I used to cry all the time. “

Now though Mahogany has embraced her difference, posts photos on social media of her unique beautiful body and dreams of becoming a diversity model. 

‘ I decided that I was given this condition because I am emotionally strong, and I can handle it. Since then, I have been learning to accept and celebrate myself.”

Mahogany now says she feels ‘beautiful inside and out.’  The Freaky couldn’t agree more.

It hasn’t been an easy journey with Mahogany being trolled online for the way she looks. Some trolls have even suggested she should amputate here leg to make her look better. 

‘I have had my fair share of ignorant comments, one person told me my leg looked like a ham roll and one girl at school called me a deformed b***h. It has been so hard to rise above these mean people but I have no other choice,’ Mahogany said.

But now she doesn’t listen to their words. 

‘I want to inspire other people to celebrate their differences. I’m proud of what my body can do.’
