EL Paso, Texas — As millions of Donald Trump contributors lined up outside the El Paso County Coliseum Monday afternoon, waiting to see the president accommodate his first official re-election campaign rallying near the U.S.-Mexico border, the MAGA merchants were in a outburst.

Some dealers attracted carts full of blood-red or cloak “Make America Great Again” hats, screaming, “Ten dollars, currency or approval! ” Others became elaborate exhibitions of flags for sale. The brand-new Trump 2020 pennant was popular. So was the flag with an instance of Trump harbouring a grease-gun, standing atop a barrel, in front of an American signal, next to a hovering bald-headed eagle.

Its Republican mayor lashed out at the president last week for his fabrication. El Paso’s worsening violation pace started well before the border barricade was built.

But Trump repeated the lie Monday evening. And for his audience, the lie was now the truth.

“Once they constructed that wall, it was amazing how statistically the violence started going down, ” 39 -year-old El Paso resident Michael Blanco, who owns an accounting business, told HuffPost outside the coliseum. “I’m a ended witness of it. Examine it growing up.”

Henri Rafael, a 58 -year-old El Pasoan wearing a pitch-black Trump 2020 hat, said that even though the mayor chastised Trump, “I know for a known fact that the crime was high back in the ’7 0s and ’8 0s, and when they improve those walls,[ felony] has dropped.”

In fact, violent crimes increased during El Paso in the two years after the wall was constructed, according to a study from the El Paso Times.

Trump occasionally paused his speech Monday for sings of “Build the wall! ” and “USA! ”

When he talked of the “fake news” media, the crowd heckled. At one point, a particularly inspired Trump supporter assaulted a BBC journalist:

She conveyed sadness over understanding so many Hispanics in the MAGA crowd. “I think they’re kind of close to brainwashed, if not brainwashed, ” she said. “Kind of like disappointing to see that they’re reinforcing someone that talks down on them.”

A few hundred grounds apart, riot police foretold over a megaphone that a separate group of 50 or so Trump protesters standing on a streetcorner is necessary for disperse. They rejected.
