WhatsApp puts further restrictions on sharing feature to curb its fake news problem

WhatsApp is imposing brand-new limits to the number of experiences you are able to forward meanings and content on the pulpit.

The Facebook-owned messaging work has been imposing restrictions on its Sharing gatherings since several instances of deadly mob violence in India were linked to Fake News articles shared widely on the pulpit.

Since July 2018, sent content and contents have carried a label, and the number of parties you can forward content to has been restricted. WhatsApp users in India( there are about 200 million of those) have only been able to share content with five customers or groups, while useds abroad could send content in up to 20 different chit-chats. But now, WhatsApp is curbing the sharing function to five shares for all users world wide.

If you do the math on that, this newly imposed restriction means that any one user can spread a piece of the information contained to a maximum of 1280 beings, as there are currently up to 256 parties in a group, and you can share with up to five radicals.

“We’re prescribing a limit of five themes all over the world as of today, ” Victoria Grand, vice president for programme and communications at WhatsApp, said at an occasion in Jakarta, per Reuters. Speaking to the BBC , a WhatsApp spokesperson added that “the forward restraint significantly reduced forwarded contents around the world.”

“[ This] will help keep WhatsApp focused on private messaging with close contacts, ” the spokesperson told the BBC.

After WhatsApp came under investigation in accordance with the violent events in India, the company did not only restrict sharing, they too hired the government officials grudge man and offered researchers awards of up to $50,000 to study the scope of fake information on the scaffold .

WhatsApp has 1.5 billion users world wide and saw a great influx of brand-new useds last year, as parties turned away from Facebook in favour of the encrypted messaging service.
