In fact, he’s happy to go storey by floor: and he wants beings to know that’s how his firebrand has been built – level by degree, step by step.

The story of the 25 -year-old’s ascent to superstardom is the subject matter of Rise Up, the first work released via Stormzy’s #Merky publishing imprint in partnership with Penguin.
Stormzy, real call Michael Omari, interprets he propelled the programme for black columnists, who he judges would otherwise struggle to get their work published.
“I examined people who was like me, the same age as me, from similar neighbourhoods, who are great at their aircraft but didn’t have the opportunity for growing published authors.
“And I thought to myself, ‘I’m in a position where I could create something that helps them’ – and that’s what I’m doing.”
Rise Up is co-written by Jude Yawson – who Stormzy get in touch with back in 2014 after predicting something Jude had written about the rapper online.
In the book’s intro, Jude says: “He could easily have secured an demonstrated scribe with decades of experience, but he asked me, someone who has never worked on a record before.”

Next June, Stormzy will release #Merky’s second diary.
Taking Up Space, written by Chelsea Kwakye and Ore Ogunbiyi, is a first-hand history of considering at Cambridge University, where Chelsea was the only black female student contemplating record in 2015.
‘It’s not bad is it? ‘
The last four years have recognized Stormzy depart from relatively unknown to having a number one recording and multiple Brit Awards.
When we spoke to him on Halloween he had a frightening urging for the rest of the music world-wide.
“I’ve been hushed recently but do you know why – I’ve been locked in the studio.”
He points to his black baseball cap – and shortage of haircut – as proof.
“It’s not bad is it? ” he giggles, stroking his facial whisker.
