Indonesia tsunami: hundreds dead on Sulawesi after earthquake

Death toll knocks 384 and is likely to rise after magnitude-7. 5 earthquake in city of Palu

At least 384 people have died after a strong shake rocked the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and provoked a tsunami.

Athonius Gunawan Agung, an air traffic controller who rushed off a pillar roof as it was crumbling while beckoning out the last flight from Palu airport on Friday night, was one of the first casualties of the disaster.

The 7.5 -magnitude earthquake impressed Palu, on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, just before gloom on Friday, wreaking desolation and termination across the city and triggering a lethal tsunami on its coast.

In the city of Palu, residence to 350,000, at the least 384 parties have already been confirmed dead, with more than 500 injured.

Photos shared on social media showed people being lined up on a shoreline, their faces covered in cloth.
