Greek Wildfire Kills At Least 74 Near Athens

MATI, Greece, July 24( Reuters) – Wildfires sweeping through a Greek resort town have killed at least 74 people including categories with children received clasped in a last-place embracing as they tried to flee the flames.

Working through the nighttime, coastguard ships and other boats rescued nearly 700 people who had managed to get to the shoreline and attracted another 19 survivors and six dead organizations from the sea, the coastguard said.

In total, at least 74 people had been killed and the deaths was expected to rise, a fire company spokesman supposed. Poland read two of its citizens, a mother and her lad, were among the victims.

It was not immediately clear how many people continued unaccounted for as boats combed beaches for any continuing survivors, with military hospices on full alarm, the Greek government spokesman said.

One of a very young victims was believed to be a six-month-old child who died of smoke inhalation, officials read. At least 187 beings were injured, among the persons 23 children.
