Chance The Rapper Dished On ‘Coloring Book’ And Kanye West In His Interview With Beats 1’s Zane Lowe

Chance The Rapper‘s Coloring Book has been analyzed, dissected and critiqued incessantly since its release a few weeks ago. But, the most important takes on the album emerged on Tuesday after the rapper’s full interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe aired.

Segments from the interview originally released on Monday, and while they were good, they were merely appetizers to the main course where everything was on the table for discussion: his take on 360 deals, the public quarrels with Spike Lee, religion and God’s influence on his current material, and his “independent streak” when it comes to being an artist who’s technically not signed to any label.

Even those don’t really hit the most engaging part of the conversation. That designation belongs to the working and personal relationship shared between Chano and Kanye West. The work the two did on each other’s LP has been well documented from the outside. It’s Chance’s inside take on the creation of tracks like “Ultra Light Beam,” “Waves,” “Famous,” and so many others — plus he plays the demos — really are almost mind-blowing in that sense that the curtain is pulled back on the process and their tricks are revealed. Not only Kanye’s input, but there is the involvement of others like Donnie Trumpet, Francis Starlite, Swizz, and more.

Chance also reveals that he and Kanye are working on a joint project tentatively titled Good Ass Job. If that title rings a bell, it’s because it damn well should since the title is the last one in Kanye’s would-be trio of original releases. Chance doesn’t really elaborate on where they are in the process, how it came to be but at least we know it still exists in some form. He also goes on record to say that his project with Chidlish Gambino “will come out” and that he “might make a tape with Jay Electronica soon…” We’ll just leave that one alone.

However, I am going to follow Chance’s lead. I’m going to say a prayer to a higher power in hopes that his demo for “Waves” does eventually release. Good Ass Job, too.
