Fans Praise Matthew Perry For ‘Looking Good’ After Revealing Battle With Addiction

Matthew Perry revealed a side of him that left fans concerned in his 2022 tell-all memoir. The book, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, revealed his long-time battle with drug addiction. “I would wake up and have to get 55 Vicodin that day and figure out how to do it. When you’re a drug addict, it’s all math,” the Friends star wrote.

Almost a year after the book’s release, Perry shared a reassuring photo on his Instagram, and fans were relieved to see him thriving. “Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage,” he captioned the post featuring his dad, John Perry, with whom he co-starred in 1977’s movie Fools Rush In.

Father and son posed and smiled, with Perry looking healthy in a comfy all-navy outfit while John wore a flannel button-up shirt and khaki-colored pants. His followers took to the comments to express how happy they were about his journey off drugs. “Very, very nice picture… You look great and healthy. I still pray for you,” someone wrote.

Others acknowledged John, noting that he would be so proud of the 17 Again actor while also complimenting him. “Father and Son both look good!” a user remarked, while another added, “Looking good, Mr. Perry and Dad! You forgot what you forgot but didn’t forget us”, referring to the inscription in the background.

Celebrating his memoir success

Perry has been sober for over two years after spending millions of dollars to get clean. “I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober,” he once said in an interview. He was inspired to write the book during his extended stay at the hospital, although he almost gave up on it. “Whenever I bumped into something that I didn’t really want to share, I would think of the people that I would be helping, and it would keep me going,” he told The New York Times.

Fans celebrated his vulnerability and the success of his memoir in the comments as well, thanking him for baring it all. “Your book is tragic and compelling. I applaud you for your gratitude and for giving back by helping others,” a follower wrote. “I just finished your book. Those of us that are long-time fans had no clue what you were going through,” another reader added. “Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I was truly touched and I hope you continue to stay healthy!”
