Suzanne Somers’ death was unexpected, as she died a day before her 77th Birthday. In honor of her birthday and well-lived life, her family celebrated her with a post featuring a video of them singing “Happy Birthday” with decorations and a cake.
The posthumous birthday celebration featured Somer’s husband, Alan Hamel, her son, Bruce Jr., and others gathered around as they sang and posed for photos. “Thank you for the out-pouring of love and affection for Suzanne,” the caption read.

The family also made provision for fans and friends who wish to “support the family” and send their condolences. “The most comforting gesture for us is to hear how Suzanne affected all of your lives. We have set up a Tribute Book at SuzanneSomers.com and we would greatly appreciate it if you would add your comments,” they wrote. “It helps for us to hear how her legacy of love lives on in all of you.”

Alan had told PEOPLE that the family had a mini get-together a night before the birthday. “We actually toasted, last night we had, I think 12 of us here and we all toasted Suzanne. I’m sure we’ll do something today,” he said.
Alan recounts Somers’ love for cake
The video featured a lovely pink cake with candles— a nod to Somers’ love for cake. “I’m positive we’ll do something today,” Alan told the outlet. “I don’t know what it’ll be, but it’ll involve a lot of cake because Suzanne was crazy for cake.”
Somers had a special spot for red velvet cake, and according to her widowed husband, “that would make her day.” He also recalled the first time they met on the set of The Anniversary Game in 1969, admitting he was a “little panicky” about walking up to her. “There was an immediate connection like I had never felt before in my life,” he gushed.
