Longtime lovebirds Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have enjoyed 18 years of marriage together and each day has been a celebration. But there was particular cause for revelry recently, as Brooks proudly honored Yearwood on her 59th birthday by sharing some never-before-seen photos on social media.
The duo first met in 1987 when they were in nearly identical places in their careers: hopeful yet fighting to gain a foothold. They met at a recording session and there, Brooks promised she could open for his shows if he ever got a recording deal. Now, he’s opening up about the ways his wife continues to inspire him to this day.

Yearwood celebrated her 59th birthday on September 19 and in celebration, Brooks took to Instagram to share some spectacular photos and affectionate words in her honor.

“Join us in wishing a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Queen @TrishaYearwood!!!!” he gushed. “To the woman who brings inspiration, comfort, kindness and love into our hearts every day of the year, today we celebrate YOU!”
He continued, “The world is a better place with you in it —- and country music and what’s on our tables wouldn’t be the same without you!!! love, Team Garth.”
The post is accompanied by several sweeping concert shots as well as candid pictures, including a dramatic shot of the two walking hand-in-hand as they have for nearly two decades now.
Fast friends through the years
Part of what makes the relationship between Brooks and Yearwood so strong is that they started off as friends ages before they got married. This helped them form a blended family with Brooks’ daughters from a previous relationship to the point that when Brooks wanted to step away from music to focus on parenting, Yearwood supported his choice and embraced her role as “Bonus Mom.”
In return, Brooks regards Yearwood as his queen, making a point to bow to her during each of their concerts together.
“I think you got to treat it like a duet,” explained Brooks on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2021. “You got to harmonize, you got to make your partner feel like they’re a star. If not, you’re gonna turn into a solo act pretty damn quick, if you know what I mean.”
