‘The Partridge Family’ Will Be Adapted Into Animated Children’s Series

If you love and miss The Partridge Family, they’ll meet you halfway, proving the past doesn’t have to stay distant. This musical family ruled America for much of the ’70s, producing catchy beats and forging teen idols that would become cultural icons. A new generation will soon be able to enjoy its own version of The Partridge Family as Sony Pictures Television puts together an animated children’s series.

ABC’s original Partridge Family starred Shirley Jones, with David Cassidy, Danny Bonaduce, Susan Dey, Jeremy Gelbwaks, Brian Forster, and Suzanne Crough. It was loosely inspired by the real-life Cowsills of the ’60s and ’70s, and took place in the fictional San Pueblo, “40 miles from Napa County.” But here’s what to expect from the upcoming reimagining.

The Partridge Family is just one of several classic shows from Sony that will become animated reimaginings; Bewitched is getting a similar treatment, following the life of young Tabitha. This version of The Partridge Family will follow a Black family residing in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, in Brooklyn.

This reimagining of the family owns a food truck, which they operate throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Armed with food and entertainment, they feed and serenade the locals as a must-see event.

By time of writing, there are no writers officially attached to the team and the project is in early development.

A legacy that lasts

That The Partridge Family should draw in modern producers and audiences is no surprise, considering the solid impact it left on the cultural landscape during its runtime and after. Its discography has projects that outsold even the Beatles. The group became a household name outside of the U.S. from Canada to Japan.

But this actually won’t be the first time The Partridge Family has been retooled as an animated program. They saw a wave of renewed popularity when they started appearing as cartoons, first in Goober and the Ghost Chasers. The success of this endeavor inspired CBS to greenlight Partridge Family 2200 A.D, a Saturday morning show produced by Hanna-Barbera that took inspiration from The Jetsons. However, it only had limited involvement from Dey and David Madden, while Jones and Cassidy did not voice their animated counterparts.

This, of course, would just be one of many times The Partridge Family generated some new wave of creativity, as they became the faces plastered on lunchboxes, boardgames, shirts, comics and so much more. May fans see another resurgence of Partridge Family pandemonium?
