Harrison Ford Says He Has No Plans To Retire From Acting Yet

Harrison Ford has had a highly successful and influential career in the film industry. Although he initially began his acting career in the ’60s, it was not until the late ’70s that he rose to prominence when he played Han Solo in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

However, having had a career that has endured for over half a century, the 80-year-old recently announced that he is stepping away from his Indiana Jones character with the fifth installment of the series, titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. But he stated that he is not yet retiring from the movie industry.

The actor recently made an appearance on Chris Wallace’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, where he stated that he has no plans to retire. “I don’t do well when I don’t have work, I love to work,” the actor admitted. “I love to feel useful. It’s my Jones, I want to be helpful.”

Ford further expressed how passionate he is about the acting profession. “It is the people you get to work with. The intensity and the intimacy of collaboration. It’s the combined ambition somehow forged from words on a page,” he added.” I don’t plan what I want to do in a scene. I don’t feel obliged to do anything. I’m naturally affected by things that I work on.”

The actor speaks about his new ‘Indiana Jones movie

During his discussion with Wallace, the 80-year-old spoke about his new Indiana Jones movie. He revealed that he decided to take up the role to change the narrative about his age. “I wanted it to be character-driven,” Ford told the host. “And I wanted us to confront the question of age straight on. Not to hide my age, but to take advantage of it in the telling of the story.”

Ford disclosed that he had plans to make the movie earlier but had to stop because it did not resonate with him. “No. It’s time for me to grow up. Six years ago, I thought maybe we ought to take a shot at making another one,” he explained. “And I wanted it to be about age because I think that rounds out the story that we’ve told, and we brought it to the right place. I mean, the last one ended in kind of a suspended animation. There was not a real strong feeling of the conclusion or the closure that I always hoped for, the roundness and speaking to this issue of age. Not making jokes about it, but making it a real thing.”
