Oh Newfoundland....What Have you Done?

TODAY I LEARNED the following: a) that I am furious with the Newfoundland Justice System, b) I understand vigilantes, and now, c) secretly wish the Boondock Saints were ACTUALLY a thing.  Sorry Newfoundland, but you are now on my boycott list.

Over the course of 4 weeks in the summer of 2014, a certain person whose notoriety I won’t contribute to by typing his name, forced an 11 year old girl to perform and receive sexual atrocities enveloped in threats that her parents would die and her house would be burned to the ground if she told.

She couldn’t walk, sit, or shower alone as a result of her repeated injuries, and when her parents found out what was happening, they called the police and of course, he was arrested.  So why the boycott?  Because the justice for said little eleven year old angel, in St. John’s Newfoundland, ends right there.  At the arrest.  The rest, as they say, is utter bulls$%t.

The Newfoundland Justice System has decided, that because the person whose name I will not notarize (shall we call him Mr. XXXX?) was sexually abused as a child, his crimes were…..expected?  not as bad?  easier to digest?  I quote presiding judge, Justice William Goodridge:  “Mr. XXXXX’s childhood was marred by his own experiences as a victim of child sexual abuse. This does not justify or excuse his criminal acts, but it does help in understanding possible contributing forces.”

As a result, the good ol’ judgey-poo gave Mr. XXXX credit for time served since 2014, and reprimanded him with MINIMUM SENTENCING: only 1 year and 38 weeks left to serve for psychopathic pedophile Mr. XXXX!  Hang tight, buddy, it will all be over soon!

Six hundred and Thirty one days, because Newfoundland thinks that if you beat up a kid on the playground, it’s only fair if that beat up kid goes and beats someone else up.  Except, in this case, ‘beating up’ means horrifically raping, and the ‘someone else’ is an ELEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL.

I was going to go down this crazy rabbit hole of “perhaps if we had given Mr. XXX proper mental care etc., etc.,” but you know what?  Unless you are a non functioning adult, no matter your history, YOU KNOW NOT TO TORTURE LITTLE GIRLS.  So, to H E double hockey sticks with that theory.

You know what this does?  It shows the obviously mentally ill Mr. XXXX that a slap on the wrist is all you get for committing one of the most heinous of crimes.  Six hundred and thirty one days.  It shows ALL of the MR. XXXX’s out there that they should Keep Calm and Rape On because six hundred and thirty one days is a cake walk.  [Where the heck did the saying cake walk come from? So weird.]  It also shows the little eleven year old victim that what happened to her ‘wasn’t THAT bad’, and we’re just gonna punish him a little.  [unrelated question:  how well do you sleep at night Mr. Goodridge?]

But hey, I’m sure the pedophiles appreciate the positive message you are sending them - probably to the six hundred and thirty first degree!  And you know what?  Torture and rape isn’t really a big deal, so the little girl will probably forget all about this silly, abusive, horrific misunderstanding and grow up to be incredibly well adjusted - it worked for MR. XXXX didn’t it?

Jeepers, Canada, you are killing the petty crime prisoners and freeing the pedophiles ….. can we get our shit together before I am boycotting EVERY province we offer?  And Justice Billy Goodridge, you sir, should, and can, go eff yourself.  I really hope Karma knows your number.  And I really hope this never happens to your little girl…….but thanks to you (I’m sure she appreciates it!) it could, in just six hundred and thirty two days.  Good luck Billy, roulette is a fool’s bet.  Especially when it comes to your children.
