Just like any capitalist economy, some individuals are extremely.

These people are so wealthy, that the fates of their societies rests on their wide and capable shoulders.

In the United States, people like Bill Gates and Elon Musk are courted by politicians for financial support during campaigns. As such, such wealthy individuals have a big say on government policy.

In some instances, some of those rich guys, such as our very own Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, use their wealth and influence to become the top policy makers.

  1. 1 Manu Chandaria

    A renknowned philanthropist, Manu Chandaria is the chairman of the Comcraft Gropu, a multinational chain of industries which employ over 40,000 people across the world. 

    Last year, it was estimated that Chandaria’s companies had a combined revenue of an extimated $4.5 billion.

    He is also leads the Chandaria Foundation, through which he gives back to the community.

    By the time he died, Biwott, also known as ‘The Total Man’ had established himself as one of the most powerful and wealthiest people in the country. 

    The businesses he left behind touch almost every economic niche in the country. They include mining, tourism, real estate, airport transport, and many others. His heir also own the biggest ranch in Australia.

    A conservative estimate of the late Minister’s wealth is more than $1.1 billion.

  3. 3 The Kenyatta Family

    President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Family is rumored to own land holdings which if combined, are bigger that the former Nyanza Province.

    The family is also said to own the biggest insurance company in Germany, modern properties in the U.S.

    Through Enke Holdings the Kenyatta Family owns Brookside Dairies, the biggest milk processor in the country. Other properties owned under the Enke banner include the Heritage Group of hotels, Prestige Air, Village Market, Commercial Bank of Africa, and Peponi Schools.

    The combined Kenyatta wealth is believed to be around a mouthwatering Ksh. 130 billion.

  4. 4 The Odinga Family

    Led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the family is said to have interests in Pan Africa Petroleum Services Limited, the Kisumu Molasses Plant, and East Africa Spectre Limited.

    Raila also owns residential and commercial buildings in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa.

  5. 5 Joshua Kulei

    Kulei was the personal aide to former President Daniel Moi. He owns CFC Bank, CMC Holdings, Ngata Flower Farm, Trade World Kenya, and Sian Roses.

    He also has a presence at Kenya Television Network (KTN), Bamburi Cement, and many others.

  6. 6 Phillip Ndegwa and Family

    The Ndegwa family has an estimated wealth of Ksh. 118 billion. They have own ICEA, AM Bank, Lion of Kenya Insurance, Unga Group, Riverside Park Estate, NIC Bank, and several other companies.
