Hifi carries an awesome advantage in that a system is far more versatile than other options. You can build your hifi system exactly as you want, with each unit in your system performing its own separate task and complete that task with the utmost efficiency. This, in turn, provides a far more superior sound quality than more centralised systems.

So what goes into a hifi sound system? What does your system require? Here are some of the components your system requires.

Musical sources

Amplifier

Speakers

This, of course, is where your music plays. Things you have to consider when choosing speakers revolve around spacial restrictions: how big is the room/area they will be situated in? How big will the speakers be? Once you have chosen your speakers, you then have to decide how they will be positioned in the room to provide the best sound.

For example, rooms below a 10’ dimension should have smaller speakers. This could be anything like a compact floor standing model or a bookshelf solution. Rooms anywhere between 10-15’ should be augmenting with a subwoofer or contain midsize floor standing models. Subwoofers are a great compromise, however they don’t necessarily provide the awesome sound of a larger speaker, something that should be placed in a 15’ and above dimension room.

Cables 

Your units have to connect (duh). However, to do this properly, you need the right cables. Interconnects are cables that connect each hifi system component with another. You’ll also need a speaker cable to connect your speakers, these can be specially cut to match your design or can be purchased at pre-cut lengths.
