Dancing has long been a representation of culture, a celebration and a great way to express one’s self as an individual. It is such an engaging activity that requires 1-2 people depending on the Style.

However the engaging part is the connection that each individual gains with the music and begins to move with it. This connection of rhythm allows the body to flow naturally and feel the Dance as much as complete it.

Learning to dance can be a challenging task not just from a physical point of view but also from a mental point. It is something that often doesn’t come naturally to many.

The tango is another Latin style that is energetic and fast paced and requires a lot of passion. The original form of tango originated in 19th century Spain however it was not until the 20th century in Argentina that we saw the creation of the modern tango that we know today.

It was one of the fastest growing variations in a global sense and quickly spread to the United States and Europe and may be why it is so popular today.

  • Mambo

The mambo is most commonly known for the 3 step forward, 3 step back movement that is regularly used. It originated in Cuba and whilst it is most commonly a couple’s dance, it has appeared in groups and individuals have sometimes performed it also.

  • Ballet

Beginning in Italy in the 15th and 16th centuries, ballet was initially developed as a form of entertainment. It was seen as an elegant and high-class form of entertainment that was dependent on the money of the aristocrats. Ballet quickly spread throughout Europe and eventually the world.

Today it is seen as a beautiful art form that requires immense physical training and is arguably the most difficult to perform.

  • Hip-Hop

This is the newest style to form and is a result of the increased popularity of rap and hip-hop music. It originates in America and is a function of the moves performed by artists in the songs.

  • Belly Dancing

This originated in the Middle East and has a strong focus on the stomach and hips. It requires little movement of the rest of the body and is a relatively slow routine. This is ideal for beginner dance classes in Sydney because of the slow nature of the routine.

  • Cha Cha

This style is very similar to mambo and also originated in Cuba. It is a faster paced style required the quick movement of feet whilst maintaining a strong upper body. This is another dance that is completed as a couple.

  • Salsa

The salsa is a Latin variation that successfully revolutionised the way that we move around the floor today. It is a mixture of styles and techniques that came together relatively recently in the Caribbean and more specifically Cuba.

With all of these different styles in mind, learning to dance can be a challenge however it is a challenge worth taking.
