Everybody loves game shows. From Jeopardy to The Price is Right, it’s always fun to watch contestants play games to win money. Some game shows have been around for decades, while some have found their success recently.

A few game shows have even been cancelled and brought back, according to a study by AAG, to become even more successful — however, that doesn’t happen to every cancelled game show. Sometimes, game shows are so bad that they barely even make it past a few episodes. 

If you haven’t heard about Hole in the Wall, The Million Second Quiz, or You’re Back in the Room, then you shouldn’t be surprised. Check out what makes these three shows the worst game shows of all time:

Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall originally aired on Fox from 2008 to 2009. The goal of this show was for contestants to pose in various difficult positions to be able to fit through a hole in a Wall that was moving towards them. If contestants didn’t pose correctly, the wall would push them into water.

While watching people pose in weird positions and fall into water is funny, it gets old quickly. How many variations of positions can there even be? It may be fun to watch people fall for 30 minutes, but without variety, you wouldn’t want to watch the next episode.

The Million Second Quiz

For a game show hosted by Ryan Seacrest himself, you would expect it to not be one of the worst game shows of all time. The Million Second Quiz aired for ten days on NBC in 2013. The point of the show was for contestants to hold their spot of a chair by answering quiz questions correctly. For every second they held the chair, they earned money.

The reason this game show was such a flop is due to the lack of drama, the technical issues, and the extremely confusing format. Ratings for The Million Second Quiz fell with each episode aired. One contestant, Slate journalist Seth Stevenson, was even confined for 12 hours after being “recruited” to be on the show, as written in his article about the experience.

You’re Back in the Room

This show really makes you wonder how this idea got approved. You’re Back in the Room was a British television game show that aired from 2015 to 2016 and was hosted by Keith Barry and Phillip Schofield.

The main quirk of this show is that contestants were hypnotized and then given tasks to complete. For anybody who is not gullible, it’s pretty easy to figure out that there’s no way that someone can be completely hypnotized and forced to do tasks. Even if they are in a different state of mind, it’s hard to actually judge the legitimacy of the show.

Lucky for us, we don’t have to deal with these shows anymore. But that doesn’t mean we’re free from bad game shows forever — they’re bound to pop up every once in a while. It doesn’t hurt to try something new, though.
