Who Makes the Best Floor Tile Leveling System?

There are a variety of floor Tile leveling systems on the market today – but can someone really say which is best?

After all, they all function similarly – and their main purpose is to ensure at the end of the day your tile is set without lippage (differences in elevation between the edges of adjacent tile). Lippage should be avoided at all costs, as it is unsightly, a tripping hazard, and a sign of a poorly done job.

If you ask any tile professional, they’ll have their favorite tile leveling system, and it will vary from person to person. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference, which is why at Tile Pro Depot we carry a variety of Tile Leveling Systems to suit each and every taste. Here’s a sampling of the systems we offer:

Spin Doctor

The Spin Doctor Tile Leveling System is one of the easiest to use and cost effective tile lippage leveling system on the market. This system uses an innovative cap and post system, giving a quick and efficient method of reducing tile lippage. It does not require tools and the caps are reusable, making it a great investment for tile layers who are looking to save where they can (the posts also double as spacers!).

This system has a patented free-spin design that enables users to tighten the cap down with one hand. The Spin Doctor posts are available in 1/6” and 1/8” widths to accommodate different grout joint sizes.

To install, the caps are spun down on the threaded posts clockwise by hand until the caps rest firmly against the tile. This should be done while the thinset is still wet so the tile edges can move to align flush with each other. The caps have special openings so you can see if the tiles are flush along the joint. The caps can also be unscrewed to realign tiles when necessary. After the thinset is cured and your tiles are ready for grout, the caps and posts can be removed without disturbing the tile (the posts break off from the bases secured under the tile).

MLT

The MLT Lippage System helps to eliminate tile lippage with a reusable cap and strap system. The system is comprised of three main components: reusable cap, reusable strap and bottom plate, truly allowing you to reduce your waste.

The MLT system has three different bottom plates for porcelain, thin tile, and stone slab so you can cater your system for each job, and the bottom plates allow for maximum thinset coverage without hollow areas. This system has an ergonomic gun available to help with installation!

DTA

DTA offers a large variety of lippage leveling systems, from starter kits to wedge lippage leveling systems. The starter kit includes caps, universal spacers, and a lippage leveling gun. It features sturdy plastic spacers and caps that hold the tile in place using a gear lock strap mechanism until the thinset hardens.

The DTA Thin Tile Lippage Leveling System uses a wide plastic wedge style cap that is inserted into thin tile bases and tightened with the DTA Wedge Leveling Tool. The wider wedge style cap better stabilizes the large tile and disperses the tension needed to tighten the systems over a broader area, preventing damage to the thin tile.

When it comes to tile leveling systems, choose the one that works best for you. Do thorough research, experiment, and make an educated decision.
