FRILUFTSLIV // A SCANDINAVIAN WAY OF LIFE

Friluftsliv is a Norwegian word describing a popular way of life in Scandinavia, the Nordic philosophy of outdoor life encouraging you to enjoy nature and appreciate the outdoors while being active. A direct translation to English would be ‘fresh-air life’, and I think that one of the reasons why Norway is the happiest country in the world is because we take time to embrace the great outdoors in our daily life.

For me, a balance of hygge & cozy home-life together with an active friluftsliv enjoying nature is key to a happy & healthy life. This is my encouragement; go out and enjoy the fresh air!

Here are a few ways I enjoy friluftsliv:

  • WALK MORE
I love walking, especially if I need to clear my mind. And a big bonus is
  • WEEKENDS ARE FOR EXPLORING
To try to be more outside, I try to at least spend one day in the weekend in nature. Whether it is exploring a new city, going for a hike or simply having a walk in the nearby park, these are all actions that will keep me active and happy.
  • FINDING AN OUTDOOR HOBBY
Currently, I am trying to pick up an outdoor hobby. When I lived in London I used to play tennis with my boyfriend in the park sometimes, something I would love to start up again.
  • GETTING A DOG
After getting a dog, the cutest little poodle named Bowie, I can see the benefit of having one. When working at home I tend to be sucked into my computer, but now he keeps reminding me of the benefit of a break outside.
