10 SCANDINAVIAN CHRISTMAS DECORATION IDEAS FOR YOUR HOME

It’s finally December, and for me the time when I start decorating my home for the holidays. I see more and more people getting festive already in November, but for me it makes it even more special to wait until the start of advent when the countdown begins.

Here is a little guide of ways to decorate your home with a Scandinavian touch, focusing on being cozy but keeping it minimal and natural!

1 // Create a Scandi-Chic Christmas tree with a minimal look like this one by The Merry Thought. I love the idea of using a basket to put the tree in, in-fact I’m on the look out at the moment for something similar for my tree! Make it extra cozy by also adding a faux fur rug in the basket or on the floor under.

2 // At Christmas time pretty much all Scandinavian homes will have an advent calendar up, why not create your own DIY version like this pretty one on the Mode website.

3 // Introduce fresh greenery in your home like pine tree clippings. This DIY candle holder by Vienna Wedekind is so simple yet stunning, and would make for a perfect centre piece on a Christmas.

4 // For us Scandinavians its not Christmas unless there is gingerbread cookies, we love the smell and taste of them and even decorate with them around the holidays. Hang them up in the window, on the Christmas tree, have them in a jar or make a gingerbread-house.. This one by Made In Persbo is made to look like a typical nordic outdoor toilet, so funny!

5 // Choose a natural colour palette for your home and add little touches of a colour you prefer. For me this year I am adding copper elements to not stick to the traditional colours too much and make my decorations a bit more modern. Remember to keep things simple, less is always more. Just look at how gorgeous this tree by Homey Oh My is with only white and copper decor. I also love her idea of keeping the old pages of her Stendig calendar and re-using them as wrapping paper!

6 // It’s great to use what you already have, and if you have a big selection of gingerbread cake cutters in different shapes then this hanging wreath made by An-Margit is the perfect way to display them.

7 // The cups from Design Letters is a statement piece and can be spotted in most Scandinavian homes. Why not have them spelling something festive like here seen on Ma Maison Blanche?

8 // A table set with some though behind it creates a lovely environment for delicious festive dinners. This simplistic and natural setting from Bo Bedre gives a nordic vibe and a hint to the holidays without going over the top.

9 // Add some natural wooden elements to your tree, like this lovely homemade garland by Pinjacolada for The House That Lars Built. It could also be hung on the wall or be lying on the table.

10 // Your shelf can be the perfect place to display subtle festive elements, like this white String shelf found via Nordic Days.

What do you think of the Scandinavian Christmas decor trend, will you be trying it out this year?
