Dear Readers,
In this month blog, we are going to reveal our expert tips and tricks on how to fix your blocked drains effectively and easily. We have also shared our piece of advice to help you avoid drainage problem to the possible. Adhering to these proven set of guideline, you will be able to quickly unblock your clogged drain, regardless if it’s sink drain, bathroom drain or toilet drain.

  • First of all, you need to confirm if it is the indoor drain or the outdoor drain that is blocked. If the outdoor drain isn’t within your property, the repairing responsibility will go to the local council.
  • If you find your sink, bathtub or toilet overflowing due to blockage inside the drain, you can try using a screwdriver if it can fix the blockage and restore the water flow.
  • If you have a rod handy to you, you can pull the cover of all manholes to identify the location of blockage in your drainage system. Wear gloves to save your hands come in contact with bacteria or debris.
  • You can also look for drain unblocking tools like a plunger or a snake. Every household should keep such tools at handy as blocked drains are a common sight. If you don’t have one, you can buy it from a local hardware store. It is available at quite a cheap price.
  • If your toilet is blocked, you can spread 2-3 spoon of dish detergent powder in the toilet bowl and then pour some hot water. The detergent powder will help break down the build-up and loosen its grip to the pipe wall. Next, do plunging again to further tear apart the blockage and push it to the main sewer in pieces.
  • Use of baking soda and vinegar with hot water is a popular DIY drain cleaning method amongst homeowners. You need to mix about 1/3 of a cup of baking soda with the same amount of vinegar into a cup. Then, pour it over the blocked drain. The chemical reaction between these two household ingredients will help you clear grease, grime, hair or any other sort of build-up in the drainage pipe. If you don’t want to mix them outside, you can first pour baking soda powder down the drain and then pour vinegar. After several minutes, pour hot water in to the drainage pipe to ensure complete cleaning.
  • Lastly, we would say it again that prevention is always better than cure. Now there are two ways you can avoid blocked drain problems: doing regular drainage maintenance and by not throwing foreign objects into drains. Regular drain maintenance includes weekly DIY drain cleaning, twice-a-year CCTV drain survey and twice-a-year professional drain cleaning.  This small investment will save you big over time! And never dispose food waste, sanitary products, feminine hygiene products or any other foreign object in your drains.

Hope these tips will help you fix clogged drain. If you need any other advice on drain unblocking and preventive drain maintenance, we are just a call away. Our friendly team of drainage specialist are here to help you fix your drainage woes.
