Musings of Furniture Trends

Recent discussions among a number of us here at Kloter Farms caused me to pause and muse a bit of the furniture trends and styles that we are observing.  Most of them are not new, but worth mentioning.

Purely for the pleasure of it, I sat and jotted a few of the different ideas that we are showing and/or working with here in our store.

Furniture Trends & Styles-

Increasingly style is becoming more of a personal choice than an industry defined parameter in homes.  As a lifestyle design center, we see an expansion of this into the living spaces of our customers’ homes with both our designers and homeowners creating a personalized look that fuses two or three individual styles together.

Furniture Styles like Industrial and Rustic Farmhouse continue to make advances into more homes bringing with them the touch of a bygone era.

Warm touches of live edge tables, metal bases, and soft fabrics or leathers provide a wonderful blend of a Rustic Refined furniture style.

Mid-Century Modern continues to hold its ground and even gain more traction in the design world.

Eclectic.  While it may have represented an off-hand mindset or state of being in times gone by, Eclectic has become the definition of expressing one’s personal style.

Without a doubt we see a trend of individual pieces being chosen as a focal point of interest and the rest of the room revolving around it.

Color Trend-

Black has been re-defined as the ‘new neutral’.  And while that may be true, we are seeing the deep and rich tones of gray, purple, and blue also taking strong hold of today’s living spaces.

Soft Tones– On the flip side of black, soft colors have a style that are refined, sophisticated, clean, symmetrical and organized.  Base colors of white and shades of grey with minimal accent colors can exude a sense of relaxation even when combined with those of a darker nature.

Grey– While the blue-grey’s have dominated the use of this color family, we are seeing a slight shift in the way that grey is being used.  Wood grain is openly embraced while being enhanced by overtones of grey.

Another color worth mentioning is ‘true brown’.  True brown is a color that is somewhat in its infancy stages.  It combines the warm natural brown hues that we are accustomed to seeing with some undertones and hints of grey.  This makes for an extremely flexible color palette to work with.

Juxtaposition of Materials

Textured Materials like wood, metal, leather, glass, and marble are all used to create very bold and strong looks.

So while these comments and musings may not be completely new to the design world, sometimes it’s good to be reminded of what’s available that could fit your space.
