Whirlpool Unveils ‘Kitchen Of The Future’

While we’re not going to judge Whirlpool’s ‘kitchen of the future’ in the style stakes (its fittings are neither ultra-modern or with the homely charm of English revival kitchens), we are excited to see what the future of kitchens may hold for the next generation of home-owners.

As you might have guessed, the kitchen of the future is all about the internet – or more accurately the Internet of Things (IoT). This means everyday objects that are controllable remotely from the internet. The likes of home heating you can control via an app is a good example of a popular technology that is beginning to turn our homes into ‘smart homes’.

Whirlpool’s kitchen has these technologies at its heart with an interactive splashback which acts as a hub for your home’s activities. In the examples given, there’s information on time, date, weather, as well as your diary, a recipe book and a way to link up your social media accounts.

However, according to Pocket-Lint.com, it can do a lot more than that. You could use it to video call friends or family, give recipes ideas on what you actually have in your cupboards and pull in a feed from baby’s bedroom so you can keep one eye on little one and one on the risotto.

The cooktop will detect what’s placed on it and heat it to perfection, whether that be a pan of rice or a baby’s bottle, and a scanner section will help you find out nutritional information about foods. Alongside that you’ve got a sink that acts like a dishwasher and you’ve got yourself a kitchen that removes the un-fun bits about cooking.
