Upcoming Dallas Arts District Events

Spanning nineteen blocks and sixty-eightnbsp;acres is the largest urban Arts District in the country. Its known as the Dallasnbsp;Arts District, and its located right in the heart of downtown Dallas. Its home to museums, performing arts centers, and more, which means there are plenty ofnbsp;happenings in the Dallasnbsp;Arts Districtnbsp;throughout the year. Here are some you wont want to miss: Gershwins Greatest Hitsnbsp; On January 22-24, head to thenbsp;Meyerson Symphony Centernbsp;to hear the Dallas Symphony Orchestra perform some of Gershwins most popular songs such asnbsp;Cuban Overturenbsp;andnbsp;Lullaby. The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. If/Then Starring Broadway Star Jackie Burns,nbsp;If/Thennbsp;is a contemporary Broadway musical that tells the story of living in New York today through unforgettable songs. This show runs January 27 through 31 at the Winspear Opera House. West Side Story Watch a screening ofnbsp;West Side Storynbsp;as it plays on a big screen accompanied by the talented musicians of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. This event takes place at the Meyerson Symphony Center February 12-14. Time and Eternity: Landscape Paintings by Bireswar Sen Thisnbsp;unique exhibitnbsp;centers on painter Bireswar Sen. He grew up in Bengal, India, and is known for using a wash technique to paint beautiful landscapes about the size of playing cards. You can see his work from January 23 to April 24 at the Crow Collection of Asian Art. Creatures of Light: Natures Bioluminescence Experience an exhibit that sparkles, glows, and enlightens all at the same time. Visitors will learn about the amazing natural phenomenon of living light, and through interactive displays and large models, theyll discover how organisms use light to ward off predators, lure to prey, and attract mates. Thenbsp;Perot Museum of Nature and Sciencenbsp;is hosting this exhibit through February 21. Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots The Dallas Museum of Art is currently displayingnbsp;Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots, and according to the museumsnbsp;website, its only the third major U.S. museum exhibition to focus on Jackson Pollock, who is considered the greatest painter this country hasnbsp;ever produced. Visitors will see a variety of works including drawings, paintings, and sculptures. This exhibit is open until March 20. Savor Dallas Thenbsp;Savor Dallasnbsp;festival offers the Metroplexs best and trendiestnbsp;restaurants along with wine from local and national wineries. It takes place April 7-10, and includes the Arts District Wine Stroll, Savor the Arboretum, and the Toast of the Town Event Series. Block Parties During a select Friday in March, June, and September, the streets are closed for a funnbsp;block partynbsp;with the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, and the Nasher Sculpture Center. The party goes until midnight and includes food, music, and performances. Symphonic Oscars Listen as thenbsp;Dallas Symphony Orchestranbsp;performs scores from popular movies such asnbsp;Gone with the Windandnbsp;Breakfast at Tiffanys. The Symphonic Oscars takes place May 13 through 15 at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Disneys Beauty And The Beast This popular Broadwaynbsp;musicalnbsp;tells the story of Belle and the Beast through incredible production numbers such as Be Our Guest. Can the Beast learn to love and accept love before time is up? Find out June 22-26 at the Winspear Opera House. Dallas Arts District Walking Tour This ninety-minute outdoor architecturalnbsp;tournbsp;is led by a knowledgeable guide who will show you significant buildings within the Dallas Arts District dating from the 1890s to present. Public tours are held rain or shine on the first and third Saturdays of every month. Advanced registration required.
