Halloween Spot Removal Tips For Your Carpeting And Upholstery

Don’t let Halloween treats make a mess of your carpeting

It’s during this time of year Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care receives calls from clients asking for help with spot removal as we entertain guests for the holidays or the kids drop Halloween treats all over the carpeting and upholstery.

Follow these tips to help spills from becoming permanent stains.

  1. Get your carpets professionally cleaned once a year.

We’ll start with this tip as it’s the most obvious, give Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care a call. Our thoroughly exhaustive approach to cleaning will leave your carpets, tile, and upholstery looking it’s very best.  Don’t miss out on the great specials we’re offering right now!

  1. Blot stains, don’t rub them.

A common mistake most people make when a stain occurs is trying to rub it out. Instead of rubbing it, try putting some cleaning products on a paper towel or cloth and dabbing the area. If you rub it, it actually causes the stain particles to go further into your carpet or upholstery!

  1. If all else fails, try club soda.

Club soda is cleanings best-kept secret. It’s true, it works. When blotting, not rubbing, make sure to start outward from the spot and move inward – if you start the other way you take a risk of spreading the stain. If club soda by itself doesn’t work, add a little vinegar and water to the mix and this should help. It may take more than a few tries, but this little secret should help take most stains out: including wine.

  1. Bust out the shaving cream.

Who says shaving cream is just for your legs or facial hair? Bust out some shaving cream and blot it directly on your stain. After you’ve blotted the shaving cream spot, you can apply a mixture of white vinegar and water to add the finishing touches. Who knew that this solution would be a carpet saver? It’s weird but it works. Still struggling with carpet stains? Call Tru-Clean Carpet & Tile Care and ask about our Specialty Stain Removal.

  1. Heat up your candle wax.

With fall in full swing, we’re sure you’ve been lighting candles left and right, we sure have. We try to be as careful as we can with wax getting on our carpet but occasionally it happens. Wax is tricky because it dries up very quickly, gets suckered into your carpet and then it’s stuck. What to do? Try heating it back up again with your clothes iron to get it removed. Simply put a cloth washcloth over the wax, then place the iron on the cloth and it should transfer the wax from the carpeting to the washcloth.
