Renters 101: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Water

Having high-quality, soft water is a goal for many households. And for good reason – it offers many benefits such as preventing pipe damage, promoting cleaner hair, softer skin, as well as brighter and softer clothes. Fortunately, you don’t need to own the place you call home to enjoy these benefits!

Renters also have many options that allow them to enjoy high-quality water as well. Keep reading to learn more about some of the options that we at Kinetico San Antonio recommend to renters to decrease excessive water usage!

Water Softener Rentals

Whether you’re renting, plan to move, or just on a budget – water softener rentals are a great, short-term solution. They are exactly the same as water softeners made for purchase, just without the long-term commitment. Kinetico SA understands that water softeners are a major investment, so we are happy to offer rentals to those that are looking to avoid a large, upfront purchase.

Tip: Before you call us, make sure to check with your landlord or property manager to see if your lease allows a water softener rental!

Reverse Osmosis System

Another type of water that offers many health benefits and is also available to renters is Reverse Osmosis water.

A reverse osmosis water system reduces exposure to contaminants such as nitrates, sulfates, chlorine, fluoride and arsenic. It also lowers sodium, as well as removes any parasites or bacteria from your drinking water. This makes it ideal for people with compromised immune systems.

Simply put, the system forces water through a filter or “membrane” that doesn’t allow dissolved solids or microbes to pass through. It’s similar to how an air filter catches dust and other irritants from circulating through your home’s air.

Reverse osmosis systems are great for renters because their installation is relatively simple. Typically installed under a kitchen sink, water comes straight from the tap, goes through the system, and is then stored in a tank for pure water on demand.

There are a variety of reverse osmosis systems, but Kinetico offers two main types:

The K5

The K5 is a multi-step filtration system that removes a greater amount of contaminants than many other reverse osmosis systems. We offer options to customize your system as well, such as an Arsenic Guard, Perchlorate Guard, Flex Filtration or Mineral Plus.

Aquakinetic

The Aquakinetic system is a smaller, low-maintenance system that comes with a lead-free faucet.

Portable Water Filters

If you’ve found out that your apartment doesn’t allow water softener rentals or RO systems, there are still options that don’t require plumbing! This includes:

  • Pitcher Filters – Perhaps the most inexpensive option, pitcher filters purify by simply pouring water into a pitcher with a filter typically on the top.
  • Showerhead Filters – Installed onto existing showerhead or replaces the showerhead as a whole.
  • Faucet Mount Filters – Attaches directly to faucet without any tools.
