4 Ways to Eliminate Split Ends

Split ends are unavoidable. The longer the Hair and the older the ends, the more likely you are to have them. The daily wear and tear on your hair can be rough and trying on your roots and ends. Switching up your routine and being more cautious on how your treat your hair can go a long way when trying to prevent split ends. Here are four tips on how to eliminate them.

  1. Use a Wide-Tooth Comb

Using a comb rather than a brush is always a good idea when trying to avoid split ends. Wide-tooth combs are the gentlest way to brush through your hair and avoid knotting, which leads to tearing. Start your comb at the end of your hair and work your way up to the root to ensure that you avoid causing knots and tangles. If you have naturally tangly hair, apply a leave-in conditioner before combing.

  1. Use Heat Tools Sparingly

Everyone knows that heat tools can be damaging to hair when used too often. Try to avoid using your straightener or curling iron for at least three days of the week. The heat will remove moisture from your hair, drying it out and making it easier to break and split. Using heat tools too frequently can cause permanent damage to your hair.

  1. Get Frequent Trims

Some people, especially long hair lovers, will go months or even years without getting a haircut or trim. People think that getting a trim means cutting inches off, but it can mean cutting less than an inch off in length. Getting a trim every four to eight weeks can prevent your hair from splitting at the ends.

  1. Skip Hot Showers

The hotter the shower the better, right? Wrong – at least when it comes to your hair. Hot water can remove oils your hair needs to stay healthy. Taking a lukewarm shower a couple of times a week can do wonders for the health of your hair. Hot water dries out your hair and even your skin. Having a water softening system can also help keep your hair from splitting and your hair and skin from drying out.

If these four methods don’t work, there are many other things to try. Different hair types can require different care. If you can’t figure out the best way to eliminate your split ends talk to a hair care professional.
