New Colours?

International colour experts at Pantone have just added more than 200 new colours to their colour system.

The Pantone colour system is used by designers to add precision and consistency to colour descriptions, so that curtain rings and draperies and tassels from different manufacturers can all match and tone with the carpet from another maker.

Pantone is also one of the top colour forecasters in the world, providing colour direction for manufacturers and designers everywhere.

They're seeing two significant trends coming up.

First, "healthy" colours in the pink and orange families are here to stay. Purples and blue-greens have been favorites in recent years, but they're losing their trendiness now. Mango, melon, and other fruity pink and orange shades are growing stronger. All the hues that reflect a healthy, rosy flush on faces will be popular for walls in the coming seasons.

Aura Orange, Dragon Fire, and Mango Mojito are the examples that are getting the most mentions, but there are many new tones of rust and rose.

On the other side of the colour wheel, "vacation" blues are getting stronger. We've seen pool blues and tropical shades of blue for the past couple of years, and it is these peaceful shades that will be the most popular blues going forward, as well.

Of course, you don't have to be a slave to trends. But these pretty colours will feel right at home this summer, and can keep you feeling healthy and serene out into the future as well. Why not embrace them?
