Traditional techniques are set to change drastically with the implementation of modern methods – which will make for better designing and execution of future construction projects.
In addition, this adoption of techniques will also ensure a higher level of safety – thereby bringing a reduction in untoward incidents that continually take place on construction sites.
Robots In Construction
Robotics, as a technology has a wide use in a variety of fields, but its implementation in the form of small robots, drones and artificial intelligence has changed the outlook of the construction industry as we now know it.
Today, it is no longer a messy time consuming and complex business. The implementation of robotics in the construction field has revolutionized the WHOLE construction scene which has traditionally been plagued with inefficiency resulting from
- Shortage of skilled staff
- Laborious manual processes
Construction Companies Are Already Beginning To Incorporate Robots In the Field
(albeit nothing like the humanoid robots depicted in the images – although as technology for Ai is improving we at Mega Builders Inc don’t see it being too long before self aware androids are seen in the construction field – let alone much of human life as we know – due to recent advancements and in Ai tech.)
Precision: Machines are extremely accurate and precise.
This precision can be implemented in a wide variety of applications from designing to surveying and even anticipating pitfalls and other obstacles likely to effect the construction progress.
This helps in predicting cost estimates and schedules with much more accuracy than previously possible.
Continuous and efficient work: Robots are rarely affected by external weather conditions prevalent in an area. Thus, they ensure construction continues at an even pace on worksites disregarding climate conditions (so long as construction itself is able to be done).
Robots (programmable automated systems; although self-aware units are now in development) are also able to work around the clock – thereby getting more work done as they can continue working from night until the morning.
Elimination of problems: Working with manual labour has the potential to create certain problems – which can almost be completely eliminated with the use of robots. Such as:
Increase worksite safety: The ability of being able to deploy robots in some of the more unsafe and risky conditions is a constitute to their usefulness.
Deploying human workers in these unsafe conditions has the potential to lead to critical and debilitating accidents which can cause irreversible damages (or worse).
With the use of robots, nearly all dangerous conditions of a construction worksite are eliminated, thereby ensuring safety for a construction company’s employees.
The only foreseeable set back would be having to fix or completely buy a new robot if it does get damaged. Which is a small price to pay compared to the loss of a life.
Increases profitability: Buying robots and keeping them well-serviced ensures productivity and output which is ill-advised to require from human employees – as robots can be deployed 24/7 (when self-aware Ai units are readily available for use).
The investment required is rather a one-time fee (unless repairs or replacements are needed). With that being said, the utility of robots far outweigh the cost.
In comparison, Azimuth Builders has even stated that emoluments, insurance policies, and mandatory work leave which employees require can out-cost the price of robots (to show the relative price of robots).
On another note, employers trying to avoid any of the aforementioned can result in a pricey lawsuit.
The Future Of Construction and Robots’ Use In The Construction Industry
While the use of robots in the construction industry is growing – it is still in its infant stages with many new areas having yet to receive the benefit of robotic technology.
With advances, research, and experimentation continuing on a daily basis – the day when the construction industry will undergo an overall change and adoption of robots is not too far away. Making it a simpler and interesting process.
Here at Mega Builders Inc, we will keep in eye-out on this recent development, as well as all construction industry changes, and keep you updated in our Construction Industry tab.
