The Ultimate Moving List

Moving can be one of the most stressful experiences of your life. There are a great many things one must worry about when preparing to move to a new home. The good news? We’re here to help with a list of things you can do to put everything in order before your move!

Getting Ready

It’s time! It’s a fantastic idea when you find out that you’re moving to walk through your home and make decisions about where things might go and how you might get them from point A to point B. Maybe you’d like to have a yard sale to make a little extra money on the things you don’t need or want anymore.

Consider creating a physical folder where you can store important moving information, or scan everything into your computer. This will bring the irritating inconvenience of digging through boxes to a minimum.

Packing It All Up

Pack your nonessentials as soon as possible and consider Packing by room. This will make unpacking in your new home less stressful and more efficient.

Another thing you might consider is packing a box with emergency supplies and one with Cleaning Supplies. Hopefully, you won’t have any need for the emergency supplies anytime soon, but having the cleaning supplies in their own box can be super helpful when you’re ready to make the house move-in ready.

Creating an inventory of your boxes may be helpful in keeping track of your possessions. Numbering them and assigning a number to each room is also an option. Do whatever works best and makes the most sense for you and your situation.

Pet Care

It’s a good idea if you have any furry friends to make your arrangements for pet care if you’re having to go out of town at least four or five weeks before your move. Most especially if you’re moving out of state.

Walk-Through

Make sure you schedule and complete a detailed walk-through with your landlord prior to moving anything into or out of your house or apartment. Use this opportunity to point out any concerns you have, as well as asking questions about things you’re not sure about. This is an important step that if not completed, forfeits a security deposit.

Scheduling

Be sure to evaluate how much time you’ll need to make the move and request time off from your employer at least two weeks in advance. This minimizes frustration and confusion and will help you organize your schedule without worry.

Moving Day!

The first night in your new home can be a lot of fun. However, it can also be stressful. Maybe you want a glass of water, but you don’t know where you packed the cups. Or perhaps you are ready to make the bed, but the sheets are nowhere to be found. The best thing you can do for yourself is packing a box with all of the essentials you’ll need for your first night. No more digging for a hairbrush!

Moving can be very difficult, tedious and stressful. But thankfully, there is plenty of help right around the corner! It is our hope that this list helps make your transition into new territory a little easier. Enjoy your new home!
