Installing Energy Saving Windows can trim your cooling and heating costs. What you might not know is that these environmentally-friendly additions to your home can also come with more savings in the form of federal tax credits and EPA discounts.
In February 2018, the federal budget renewed tax credits for Energy efficient windows and other products which are Energy Star certified. The credit applies to purchases made in 2017, and it will not expire until 2021.
Programs such as this are promoted by the EPA as an incentive for homeowners who voluntarily participate in the Energy Star program. It is estimated that the Energy Star program has been responsible for more than $300 billion in reduced energy costs since it was launched.
A long-range goal of the EPA program is to encourage discussion about energy use and future challenges. The EPA also hopes to raise awareness that could help to prevent energy crises.
The Department of Energy also publishes an extensive list of tax credits, rebates, and discounts for those who install energy efficient windows. This list is updated regularly as new legislation is passed to provide additional incentives.
Rebates may also be offered from time to time on Energy Star windows. These windows are designed to increase energy efficiency while offering multiple benefits to homeowners. These benefits can include protection from UV rays, less noise, and better insulation.
