4K Security Camera System – Price and Spec Comparison

When it comes to visual clarity, the tech world seems to be obsessed with 4K resolution. Whether it is smart TVs, gaming monitors, cameras or surveillance tech, everyone wants the best viewing. For our purposes, we wanted to ask ourselves: what should our clients get when they choose a 4K Security Camera system?

To better understand what’s available across the 4K landscape when it comes to surveillance cameras, we’ve done some research. We considered the hardware that comes in the system (amount of cameras + NVR with how many channels + hard drive). Along with that, we looked at price point in comparison to the specs you get with each system compared to our range of options.

When choosing a LaView 4K Security Camera system, you should have all the information to make an educated choice.

The result of this research is some compelling information that should help guide you in your 4K purchasing. Join us in comparing top-tier security solutions, to learn where you can find advantages for your own home or business surveillance.

Top Competitor Breaks $2K for 4K Security Camera System

You read that correctly. One of our top competitors has a 4K security camera system that breaks the two thousand dollar mark. That may not seem outrageous, but the system in question only comes with 4 cameras.

We take issue with this. But, before we write this competitor off completely, let’s take a closer look at when they have to offer with this 4K system. We’ll break it down spec by spec and then look at a couple of comparable options from our 4K line. We’ll put in our two cents even though the facts speak for themselves.

Price Point

$2,250

Okay, so let’s assess here. 16-channel NVR is good. This gives the user a chance to expand, especially if the kit comes with less cameras than available channels. This system certainly fits that description. Actually, that is the main problem with this system. You only get 4x bullet cameras with this system. We think the marketing scheme here is that they are varifocal cameras, which let you zoom a good distance, but other than that, they are just 4K bullets.

If you look at the other specs, you have a system that is fairly equivalent to most other systems in the class. We’ll do a closer comparison with our system specs a little lower on this page.

We just can’t justify $2,250 for only 4 cameras in a system. Even if they want to upsell you for more zoom capabilities and farther-ranging night vision, it’s a hard pill to swallow. Paying over two thousand dollars for a 4K security camera system that only covers your property at 4 points is very likely not your best bet.

We went with a high-end comparison here because, frankly, the competitor’s high price point allowed us to. When we talk about security systems that exceed the 2-thousand dollar mark, we have a certain expectation of scale. When investing that much money, you’ll want your entire property to be covered with top-tier security solutions.

That is exactly what this 4K security camera system system provides.

Now that we have the details of our 4K system, let’s see how they stack up to the competitor. As we mentioned above, there is no ignoring the amount of cameras in relation to the price. Our system comes with 12 Ultra HD 4K bullet cameras. Conversely, our competitor equips you with only 4 cameras. So, we are talking about 3x as many security cameras for your property as well as $250 less.

Both systems come with 16-channel NVRs. That means both have room for expansion as not all of the channels are used with the base setup. From there, both network recorders are equipped with 3TB surveillance-grade hard drives. Both have SATA interfaces that allow you expansion up to 16 total TB of storage with additional hard drives.

As we move down the list, you can see that the competitor has an advantage in the night vision department. But we ask ourselves, is 350 feet really necessary for nighttime coverage? Does that warrant the exponentially higher price per camera? If you think about it from a functional, practical perspective, do you really need more than 100ft night vision? If you are concerned with monitoring your property, won’t 12 cameras with 100ft night vision cover more points than only 4 cameras?

Let’s look at another competitor vs a different LaView 4K security camera system.

Competitor 4K Security Camera System – Economical or Underperforming?

Let’s go ahead and look at another competitor who looks to be tackling the economical side of the 4K security camera system market.

NVR

8-Channel 4K NVR

Cameras

4x Bullet 4K Cameras

Storage

2TB Hard Drive Pre-Installed

Night Vision

100 Foot Night Vision

Weatherproofing

IP67

Price Point

$500

Not bad overall stats. If you want 4K security at a fairly low cost, this is a genuine option. But when we talk about 4K camera systems under $1,000, is this doing the most it can for you? Let’s take a closer look.

As we mentioned, $500 is a great price point. But, as we saw with the previous competitor system, 4 cameras can fall a little short of your property’s needs. It might be sufficient, but in the price range, can we do better?

The same competitor sells standalone 4K cameras as add-ons in case you want to expand your system. Those cameras go for $115. Suddenly, if you want to use 2-4 of your free channels, you are adding $230-$460. We’ll come back to these figures when we compare in the next section.

From there, you get a pretty standard set of hardware as well as specs with this system. Let’s take a look at one of our systems in a comparable price range.

Cameras

6x Bullet PIR 4K Cameras

Storage

2TB Hard Drive Pre-Installed

Night Vision

150 Foot Night Vision

Weatherproofing

IP67

Price Point

$799

This represents specs from our premier Ultra HD 4K PIR System.

First thing you’ll notice in comparing these systems is that this has the same amount of channels, but includes 2 more Ultra HD 4K cameras. Now you may be thinking, our system is about $300 more. But if you consider adding on 2 cameras to our competitor, theirs would be withing the same range of price. But there’s one hugely key feature that they are missing out on.

The cameras in our system feature PIR thermal detection. This takes motion detection to the next level by only picking up the motion of humans as well as animals. This eliminates a significant portion of false alarms which you may receive with basic motion detection (like on our competitor’s units).

On top of that, we exceed their night vision standards by 50ft. When you consider these upgraded features, the better investment is clear here.
