All good things eventually come to an end. If you have a Sofa that cost a fortune and you are not willing to make that kind of investment again in the near future, you might want to go through this article to prevent such damage.
The best kind of investment that you can make for your home is high-quality furniture. This adds a certain flair to an ordinary space. With the right vision and materials, you can turn any space lying lifeless into a stylish and modern one. We all like to spend time with our loved ones, and the sofa is an excellent spot to watch our favorite TV shows or movies. However, there are a few things that you might be doing unknowingly that can harm and cause damage to your sofa. If you want to be using your sofa to last for an extended period try avoiding these bad habits.
1. Sitting in the same spot:
Having a favorite spot on the sofa is very common. It is obviously a good thing to have because it might be giving you a better view of the TV and provides a perfect back support. But sitting in the same spot every day can hurt your sofa. It can crush the fibers and wear down the springs that lie underneath. To avoid hurting your sofa, consider sitting in a different spot or rearranging your sofa once in a while. Distribute your weight evenly on the sofa to extend the lifespan of your sofa.
2. Prolonged sleeping on your couch:
Sofas are built for sitting, but as creatures who are thirsty for rest after a hard days work, we tend to take a small nap on our couch. A nap every now and then is fine, but regular sleeping on the couch is bad for both you and your couch. The sofa cushions  are generally made of a higher density of foam and a spring support system. This design is built to resist the impression formed when a person sits on it. Prolonged sleeping on the couch can lead to pain in the back and neck muscles which can lead to serious medical conditions. Due to prolonged sleeping,  the frame of your sofa and the cushions will sag and deteriorate over time. So if you see anyone dozing off on the sofa , gently remind them to go to the bedroom.
3. Not rotating the cushions:
If you want to increase the life of your sofa, it is very important that you periodically rotate the cushions(if possible). Try flipping them and switching their place to different spots. Flipping and rotating the cushions periodically can help to keep their shape and prevent sagging.
4. Not placing the sofa in the right place:
Sunlight tends to bleach specific fabrics and fade them over a period of time. This will not only deteriorate the quality of the fabric but also destroys the look of the sofa. If you have a throw pillow, and the sofa is placed near the sunlight a significant difference in color is seen when the pillow is removed. So keeping the sofa in the right place is very important.
5. Not keeping your sofa clean:
We all like watching football matches or movies on the weekends. With that comes the huge pile of chips and coke. So there is bound to a few thrills and spills. If not cleaned immediately, they can leave a stain on the fabric, making it impossible to remove later. Depending on the fabric the cleaning technique varies. If you don’t care right away, you'll end up ruining your fabric. Even if your sofa doesn’t look dirty, it will probably be covered with dust particles, dead skin cells, small bits of food and who knows what else. So it is always better to periodically clean your sofa to extend its life.
6. Leaving sharp objects on the couch:
Pens, scissors cutters or any other sharp objects can accidentally cause cuts and scratches on your sofa. Advise your kids to do their school work, crafts, and projects in the study room or bedroom where there is a table designated for that work. This prevents the sofa from being soiled or damaged.
These are a few mistakes that you might be committing unknowingly. After reading this article, hopefully, you will keep these things in mind and take good care of your sofa. But if your sofa fabric is already damaged and you don’t know what to do, don’t worry, there are experts like Sofa Clinic who can help you out.
