Air New Zealand Kicks It Old-school Style With A RUN-DMC Remake In Latest Safety Video

Air New Zealand has taken an old-school approach to its latest in-flight Safety video with a nostalgic '80/90s rap video.

The video features a remake of the iconic RUN-DMC hit song “It’s Tricky” and Sisters Underground’s “In the Neighbourhood”, with Kiwi actor Julian Dennison and local musicians Kings, Theia and Randa providing the new lyrics for “It’s Kiwi”.

The ‘It’s Kiwi Safety’ video is Air New Zealand’s largest scale safety video and features talent from 30 community groups across New Zealand, including Auckland’s Rewa All Stars dance crew, Dunedin surf lifesavers and Mosgiel Brass Band, in addition to Air New Zealand staff including cabin crew, pilots, engineers and loaders.

Air New Zealand general manager global brand and content marketing Jodi Williams said the latest video aims to celebrate New Zealand’s local talents.

“‘It’s Kiwi Safety’ is all about celebrating great Kiwi talent, the diverse groups which make up New Zealand, as well as a number of fantastic locations. We know this video will make people proud to be New Zealanders – but will also showcase our unique Kiwi culture to the world.”

“We’ve never had so many people in one safety video before or filmed in so many locations. It’s also been great to change up our formula and do a safety video in the style of a music video. We’re sure everyone is going to love the remixed track “It’s Kiwi” – while at the same time getting our key safety messages.”

The ‘It’s Kiwi Safety’ video is the 18th installment in the brand’s long-running strategy to produce entertaining videos to ensure that. passengers pay attention to the safety briefing. Previous videos have included the cast of The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit movies, as well as New Zealand rugby team the All Blacks, Bear Grylls, and a host of global celebrities.

Air New Zealand’s safety videos have collectively generated more than 157 million views online to date along with attracting international media exposure and inspiring other airlines to also invest in their own creative in-flight safety videos.
