Refinishing Kitchen Cabinet Door Ideas

Refinishing kitchen Cabinet door ideas can bring a spark into your kitchen. The kitchen has a central role in a house. Beyond merely cooking meals, it serves as a storage point, dining room, and for the entertainment of guests. As cabinets are integrated these days with home appliances, we no longer just simply stay in, or use our kitchen spaces. They have become a huge part of our daily life that we now interact with.

Purchases

There are two basic routes to getting cabinets. They may be purchased “off the shelf” or may be custom ordered. Pre-built cabinets arrive much faster and are fitted in, while custom cabinets are made to measure and take longer to arrive. It is very important to ensure that space options, functionality, and desired kitchen layout are taken into cognizance. If not, the arrangement would not fit because of free space, bumping of cabinets and doors, and ill-fitting cabinets. Custom-made cabinets, although expensive can fit into every space and is, therefore, more attractive.

Cabinet care

There are several ways to care for cabinets depending on the finish type it sports. For wood finishes, regular cleaning with a lint-free cloth is sufficient. The cloth may be dabbed in water to obtain better results. All spills must be cleaned immediately before they congeal. A mild liquid soap may be applied. Detergents are abrasive and would wear out the cabinet finish. Silicone-containing wax products would build up on the finish and cause a loss of lustre, the very opposite of what was intended. For glass doors, any regular glass cleaner may be used.

All cleaning should be handled carefully since glass is fragile. It is important to note that the glass cleaner should not be directly applied as it can seep into the wood paneling and cause gradual weakening. Cabinets should be protected from direct sunlight streaming in through windows since ultraviolet radiation can cause fading of the finish. Some finishes are overlaid with UV inhibitors.

Finishing Options

Cabinets are made up of box-like wooden sides, closed on five sides, and sporting a door on the sixth. Cabinet finishing ranges from simply painting over to the more complex decorative finishes of toning and glazing. Laminating the cabinets with resin and paper laminates produced under high pressure is a common choice. The laminates are very tough and resistant to average kitchen pressures.

Cabinet bodies

One of the most durable choices for cabinet construction is solid wood. It is however slightly expensive. Therefore, it may be combined with plywood to reduce costs. Different types of wood have different costs. Plywoods are usually used also to construct the cabinet body. An alternative is the high-quality particle board. While plywoods are held in place with nails and screws, particle boards are joined with mechanical or adhesive fasteners. They are designed to withstand high-pressure loads without sagging. Cabinets may be framed or frameless. Framed cabinets are also referred to as traditional cabinets, while frameless are called full access cabinets.
