How Major Employers in Houston Affect Real Estate

There are plenty of amazing job opportunities here in the Houston area. There are many important questions to ask yourself if you are considering relocating to Houston for a job. Relocating for work may be good for some people who are open to new options and the relocation would cause little disruption to their lives. Other times, people may end up having to break a lease or sell a house quickly in order to make it happen. Even with all of these obstacles, cities such as Houston with an incredible job market and cost of living are at the top of anyone’s list if they are considering relocating for their careers. Houston comes in third place when it comes to having headquarters for fortune 500 companies. Although the oil and gas industry plays a large role in the Texas economy, the healthcare industry has also been responsible for much the more recent economic growth in the area. With this type of job opportunity and economic growth, many are predicting that the best years for the Houston housing market are just around the corner. Here are some of the major employers that help contribute to the economic growth in Houston.

Phillips 66 – Phillips 66 is an energy company and was one of the first oil companies to release mutli-grade motor oil. The Corporate Headquarters is near the Sam Houston Tollway and is 1.1 million square feet, has over 2,200 employees and just recently opened in July. They are the highest ranking Fortune 500 company that has a headquarters based in Houston.

Conoco Phillips – Although they were once merged with Phillips 66, they split off in 2012. Both oil companies still have their corporate headquarters in Houston. The company was originally based in Ogden Utah when they were a coal, oil and kerosene distributor in the 1800’s. It is rumored that Conoco Phillips decided to build their corporate headquarters in Houston in 2002 due to the capacity for direct international travel out of Houston. This is a common reason that many businesses keep their headquarters in Houston, but also a common reason for anyone wishing to travel internationally to move to Houston as well.

Memorial Hermann Healthcare System – Memorial Herman Healthcare has 13 hospitals and 8 cancer centers along with many additional specialty health programs throughout the Houston area. This healthcare system employs 19,500 people and has one of the busiest level 1 trauma centers in the United States. They have won many awards that have brought them in the spotlight as a desired place to work. Their headquarters is located at the corner of Interstate 10 and Gessner Road.

Landry’s- Landry’s owns and operates over 500 hotels, restaurants and casinos in the US and internationally. They operate 4 aquariums in Texas, Colorado and Tennessee. They also operate a cruise line that travels from Galveston to the Gulf of Mexico. They are well known for Landry’s seafood which was where the company started before expanding into other areas of dining and entertainment. Houston is the home of their corporate headquarters. Landry’s has over 60,000 employees company wide.
