When your Pool Pump fails, it doesn't always mean it's time for a new motor.  Often times, if your motor is less than 5-7 years old and it fails, the real problem may be the start capacitor.  This is a part that costs less than $20.00 and can be easily tested and replaced as a DIY activity.  A $20.00 part is much easier on the wallet than a new motor that can cost anywhere from $130.00 to $300.00 plus.

The typical warranty on a pool pump motor is 1 year from the purchase date.  So, if your motor fails shortly after this, do not immediately go out and replace the motor without first checking the start capacitor.  Below is a good video I found on YouTube which explains how to test your pool pump motor start capacitor.  I hope you find this useful.
