Advanced Care And Restoration Tips For Composite Stone Bathtubs

Traditionally, Stone bathtubs are made out of natural stones, and crafted to perfection by the most experienced of artificers in the industry.  However, manufacturers have now begun mixing small percentage of acrylic resin with natural stones to create the same gorgeous looking freestanding bathtubs, but with a slightly lower price tag.

While these new range of stone bathtubs may be less expensive in relation to their all-stone variants, they are also more susceptible to damage, fading, discoloration

etc. Therefore, here are some essential tips that owners of composite stone tubs can use to treat the two most common problems – discoloration and scratches.

How To Treat The Discoloured Appearance?

Blotchiness in stone bathtubs is mainly caused by hard water. As the water stays on for long, minerals present in it begin to cling on to the bath Surface. With time, this shows up as a dull unattractive film over the bath surface.

In order to remove this mineral film, you will first need something to wipe the surface with. So, either choose a wet sponge or a soft cloth for the task. Then, you will need some mild abrasive cream. Ideally, you should start Rubbing the area at the front of the tub, going all the way to the back. Once that is done, repeat the same procedure, but only this time, move from the left side of the tub surface to its right and back again.

Rinse the entire area with clean water after having thoroughly rubbed the entire surface and immediately wipe the water off using a dry towel. While this clean-up process should remove the blotches in most cases, there might be instances where the film is too stubborn and therefore a light layer still stays back. If so, then restart the rubbing process, and this time apply more pressure on the surface while maintaining the same circular movements.

How To Remove Fine Scratches And Minor Cuts?

Basically, fine scratches and cuts tend to appear and then fade as the stone surface renews itself naturally. However, if you want to manually remove them, then you can first try rubbing it off in the manner described in the previous section.

If that does not work, then using a light scouring brush, rub the affected surface ever so gently. It is crucial that you carry out this rubbing work on a wet surface, as it will make the cleanup work easier for you. The rubbing should ideally follow a straight line.

Just be careful not to rub the tub surface too hard or for too long for that matter, as then you will need to sand the adjoining areas to bring in some consistency in the color fade.
