7 Tips to Make Spring Cleaning a Breeze

Hey, do-it-yourselfers. Do you hate Spring cleaning? Admittedly, it isn’t the most fun thing in the world, but it does need to be done. Whether you live in a warm or cold climate, everything got dusty and musty during the winter, which is one reason why spring is many people’s favorite time of year. You can open up the doors and windows and air your place out. Don’t dread Spring Cleaning. Streamline it with these seven helpful tips from HGTV.

1. Deodorize Your Refrigerator

Take baking soda, salt, and purified water and combine them to make a fizzy cleaner that will not only make your fridge shine inside and out but also deodorizes it. The abrasive texture of this mixture works well on tough grime and stains without scratching the surfaces.

2. Remove Faucet Lime Buildup

If your faucets have corroded with lime over the winter, clean them with the help of white vinegar. Soak rags in straight vinegar and wrap them around your faucets. After an hour, remove them and scrub the deposits away. You can also soak faucet screens and heads in vinegar to open the flow again.

3. Clean Screens

Clean your screens before you open up your house to enjoy the warmer air. Use a carpet scrap to clean them. The shag from the carpet gets into the tiny holes to remove dirt quickly and easily. This is a wonderful cleaning brush that you might already have sitting in your garage.

4. Don’t Forget Your Windows…

You might be tempted to grab that bottle of window cleaner filled with ammonia but don’t. Ammonia is a dangerous chemical that can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, lungs, and skin. Use soapy water instead. It works just as good and your car’s windshield squeegee will dry them without streaks.

5. … Or Your Window Treatments

When it comes to spring and summer maintenance tips, this one may be the easiest. Just pull your drapes off their hooks and toss them in the dryer on its air fluff cycle. Toss a wet towel in there, too, to increase the dryer’s cleaning power. Boom, you’re done!

6. Dust Fan Blades

Make certain all your summer fans, including the ceiling fans, are ready for their summer jobs. Dust your ceiling fan blades and then polish them. Take your standing fans apart and clean them good. This will ensure they don’t spread dust and pollen when you first turn them on.

7. Air Out Winter Bedding

Finally, take all winter bedding outside and air it out before you store it away. If they don’t need to be washed, don’t waste the water or energy doing so. Rather, hang them on an outside clothesline for a day and then pack them away in dust-proof packaging until you need them again.

These seven tips make your spring cleaning projects easier and, in some cases, healthier. An efficient spring cleaning means you’re done and outdoors faster, which helps blow the winter mustiness off you. Make a list of spring cleaning chores, divvy them out to the entire family, and then use these tips to get them done. Afterward, treat everyone to a day in the sun and the first ice cream cone of the season.
