Septic System QLD: On-Site Wastewater Treatment System for the Redland Region

Do you live in the picturesque Redland Bay?

If you’re not connected to the municipal sewerage system, you’ll require an on-site Wastewater Treatment system (OWTS) like Ecosafe.

As a resident of Redland City Council, you must follow the guidelines for setting up and managing your HSTP, which we’ll discuss in more depth below.

What are the regulations for septic system in Redland City Council?

The property owner is responsible for operation, maintenance, repairs, and modifications of the installation to ensure compliance with standards.

As per the Redland City Council website, conditions for the installation and operation include:

  • compliance with the authorised unit by the Department of Housing and Public Works
  • operation according to the manufacturer’s requirements
  • meeting effluent standards
  • installation by a licensed drainer
  • Annual registration and payment of fees
  • treated effluent shall be disposed of on-site within the declared disposal area
  • Council may carry out any necessary tests at any time during normal working hours
  • an Advanced Secondary On-Site Wastewater Treatment Facility is mandatory for Southern Moreton Bay Islands

Failure to comply with conditions may result in prosecution under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002.
