Cuddledown Manufactures Cotton Masks Amidst COVID-19 Epidemic

In 1973, during the first oil crisis, we started making down comforters in Yarmouth, Maine, to provide comfort to our tight-knit community in a time of need.

Nearly 50 years later, and millions of orders fulfilled worldwide, we at Cuddledown find ourselves in a position to help our community on a larger scale, as we face an unprecedented challenge.

With the capabilities of our manufacturing facility, along with an experienced and driven team, we’ve shifted some of our focus at Cuddledown to manufacturing cloth Masks to be donated to our Maine medical community.

It is our hope that the masks, made from our 100% cotton comforter shells and sheeting, will help alleviate some of the added stress caused by a lack of medical supplies that healthcare workers currently face.

“Our team is humbled at the opportunity to produce these washable masks,” says John Roode, Manufacturing Manager. “We feel very fortunate to be in a position to play a role in supporting some of the incredible people on the frontline of this pandemic.”

Since beginning this project, our manufacturing team has been able to send masks to Maine Medical Center, Southern Maine Health Care, Beth Israel Hospital, Chebeague Fire & Rescue, Maine Veteran’s Home, and local grocery stores.

Along with mask donations, a fabric donation was made to our local Yarmouth Sewing Warriors – a league of sewers from Yarmouth, Maine producing cloth face masks to slow the spread of COVID19.

While our Manufacturing Team remains to work diligently on fulfilling customer orders and creating masks, other employees at Cuddledown are finding ways to do their part while working from home.

With combined efforts from our Wholesale, Inventory, and Marketing teams, Cuddledown was able to partner with Good Housekeeping and donate our sheeting to The House of Perna to use as material to sew protective masks for medical workers across the nation.

“With the safety challenges our healthcare providers face during this epidemic, we are thrilled that we have the ability to make masks and can assist them in their time of need.” ~ Norma Wilkins-Gross, Cuddledown President

If there’s one thing we’ve learned at Cuddledown during this time of change and uncertainty, it’s that it takes the combined efforts of every single individual to move forward – not only the staff at Cuddledown, but everyone in our community as a whole.

Our efforts might be small in the grand scheme of things, but if everyone continues to show their community support, we know it’s only a matter of time before we all overcome this crisis, and come back stronger.

If you know of an organization that is in need of masks, please send us an email at [email protected]
