Bruneau Dunes State Park

Youll enjoy the information-packed Visitor Center, featuring abundant, interesting facts about the dunes, fossils, wildlife, and birds of prey. Theres also a gift shop and an observatory. The observatory at Bruneau Sand Dunes in Idahos largest public observatory. Open to visitors Friday and Saturday evenings, take the opportunity to enjoy the audiovisual program offered. After a program within the building, you can look through several telescopes to see the beautiful stars in the sky above. With no large city nearby, light pollution is minimal and the night sky is beautiful. Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, so be sure to show up early if you want to check out the show.

If youre the tenting type of camper, there are 82 serviced campsites with water, showers, and electricity, and 16 regular sites. The park also has 2 cabins available for rent. If youre an equestrian, youll be pleased to know you can even bring your horse along, and enjoy riding the 9-mile trail that surrounds the park.

Youre welcome to climb the dunes, though please be aware no vehicles are permitted on the dunes rather only in designated areas for parking. The tallest dune in this high desert region of public Idaho property towers 470 feet above the high deserts small lakes. The elevation is 2470 feet, and the park itself is comprised of 4800 acres. A smaller dune is located nearby.

Should you wish to have a gathering set in a rustically beautiful setting, youll find meeting rooms available to reserve. Theres even WiFi, as well as group shelters, showers, firewood for sale, a dump station, and more.

Youll need to get any necessary registrations and permits and might consider obtaining an annual passport for a minimal cost, which saves you considerable money and covers all your yearly visits to Idahos 30 state parks, with unlimited day-use access.
