Dedicated to making healthier choices with food this month, but still craving a treat every now and then, I made a compromise with this simple and juicy dessert. Try this with other citrus fruits: grapefruit, orange, pomelo, tangerine, – adjusting the amount of sugar to your taste.

Clementines brûlées
- 2 large clementines
- 1 dried clove bud
- 4 teaspoons sugar
1. Wash and dry clementines, cut in halves horizontally. Place the fruit cut sides up in a baking dish.
2. Using a fine grater above the dish, season the clementines with clove. One teaspoon at a time, cover the fruit with sugar.
3. Immediately place the baking dish under the broiler on high and, watching closely, cook for about 5-7 minutes until the sugar caramelizes and the edges of the fruit slightly brown. You can use a culinary torch instead.
4. Serve warm or cold. Optional: add a teaspoon or two of mascarpone or fresh ricotta.
