Do Bug & Roach Bombs Actually Work?

Bug Bombs Are Unsafe & Ineffective in Getting Rid of Roaches & Other Bugs

In the era of do-it-yourself remedies, it has become a general assumption that Bug Bombs will work to eliminate any pest, including cockroaches.

Commonly known as “bug Bombs,” total release foggers are ineffective at eliminating roaches, as well as bed bugs and even flea infestations.

Whether you’re a business owner, homeowner, or renter, this is not the best option when it comes to handling a cockroach infestation.

Bug Bomb Effectiveness

Contrary to popular belief, DIY bug bombs are rarely effective.

Bug bombs are aerosols which deplete with light.

Bug bombs are considered to be a pyrethrin and act as a repellent. The repellents simply push the insects away temporarily.  This is problematic for anyone trying to eliminate roach infestations.

While these bug bombs can make it feel like the bugs are gone, it only seems that was because these bombs contain repellents.

On some occasions, the bug bomb can even cause the pest problem to spread to other areas of the home or business because of this.

Unlike methods used by pest management professionals, bug bombs are not able to reach the nooks and crannies where cockroaches prefer to hide — like inside cabinets. Instead of eliminating the roach infestations, bug bombs merely increase the pesticide levels in the home or business.

Benefits of Professional Cockroach Control

Cockroaches have been around far longer than humans and are excellent at adapting to new environments. The most common invaders include; the American cockroach, German cockroach, and brown banded cockroach.

German cockroaches are most commonly responsible for roach infestations. They are also responsible for carrying disease-causing germs and transmit illnesses such as food poisoning.

Homes, offices, and restaurants with a cockroach infestation are urged to have it taken care of before it gets out of hand. Spotting two or three during the daytime hours can be an indicator of a larger problem.

A pest management professional will identify the species, then customize a solution to fit the needs of your building and will effectively eliminate the cockroach infestation. These customized solutions will leave you feeling worry-free with the roach infestation eliminated and knowing harmful chemicals weren’t left behind.

Signs of Cockroach Infestations

Preferring to hide in crevices and small cracks during the day, cockroaches are a nocturnal species and can be difficult to spot — if you don’t know what to look for.

Hiding spaces will vary depending on the species of cockroach. But typically, the pest will fit themselves in tiny cracks or crevices because cockroaches feel secure when they are surrounded on each side.

Once the pest has invaded an area of your home or business, they will multiply quickly and become harder to eliminate.

Signs of a cockroach infestation include:

  • Skin: As the pest matures into adulthood, cockroaches shed their skin 5 to 8 times. These skins are typically found near the cockroach’s hiding spot.
  • Smell: Roach infestations can produce an unpleasant odor that will linger and can taint the items nearby.
  • Droppings: Roaches can produce brownish-black cylindrical droppings that are typically 2mm in length.

If after reading the signs of a roach infestation you believe your home or business may have an infestation, it’s vital to contact a pest management professional and avoid using bug bombs on your own.

Acting quickly can help stop the infestation from becoming a larger issue.
