Thriving A to Z: D – Date Night Dinner (Thrive Life)

Simple Plate meals from Thrive Life are a perfect fit for date night dinners at home.  (Need the date to go with the dinner?  Check out my post about dating your spouse.)

What is Simple Plate, and How Does it Work?

You set up a delivery service (you can pause or cancel it at any time, even after just a single delivery), and choose from the current month’s Meal options.  The meals rotate, with new ones added periodically, so there’s plenty of variety.

When your meals arrive, what you’ll receive is kits with virtually all of the ingredients freeze-dried and divvied up into step-by-step portions.  (A few basic ingredients you’ll be expected to have in your pantry, like cooking oil and salt.)  Each meal has clear instructions and can be completed (in most cases) in under 30 minutes.  So you get “fast” food comprised of real ingredients, and it’s not burgers and fries!

For date night, you can choose to cook together, or take advantage of the quick and easy prep (and next to no cleanup!) to get your dinner ready before date night begins.

A Couple Examples

What you see in the image above is the Southwest-Style Chicken Quinoa Bowl.  (The full meal is shown on the bottom; only the quinoa portion is on the upper right.)  I’ve also tried the Thai-Style Coconut Beef with Rice Noodles.  There are a variety of other options, ranging from Sausage & Veggie Pizza to Maple Pulled Pork (with) Waffles to Rigatoni Rustica to Chicken Cranberry Pot Pie, but these two happen to be among the gluten-free choices.

The Thai-Style Coconut Beef includes a good bit of green pepper and mushroom, and I’m not a big fan of those, personally, so I pulled a lot of the pepper and mushroom out before I prepared mine (you’ll see later this month what I did with them).  I tell you that so you’ll know that the photo below has less green than it does if you make it “right.”

It’s pretty tasty (although probably more photogenic if you take the picture before tossing the sauce and noodles together).
