Mini Masters {review}

We first discovered the Mini Masters series through our local library, and quickly fell in love with them.  As you can see, ours are well-loved.  Each of these board books is a short rhyming story for toddlers, with all of the illustrations being classic works of art.  Each book features a different artist.

This is wonderful way to introduce little ones to famous artists and their work, and expose them to different styles, while keeping it low-key.  The information about the paintings is found in the back of the book, so if you want to look them up, you can.  (I was familiar with a lot of these paintings, but not all of them.)

In the Garden with Van Gogh is my personal favorite, because not only does it feature Van Gogh’s work, the text introduces the cycle of planting and growth.  The other stories are cute, but not as educational.

A Magical Day with Matisse includes two paintings that have naked people in them.  They’re stylized, but be aware if that’s going to be a problem in your household.  (“Music” — the one that’s a group of five — and “Dance II,” if you want to look them up to see if they’re okay for your home or not.)

These make a great gift for toddlers, or a good baby gift for a mother who already has the essentials (a second baby, for instance).
