Here’s a great scrap-buster project for beginners to try this weekend and it’s super fun to make! Learn how to make this pretty quilt block with the help of this video tutorial by Carol Thelen on YouTube. It comes with a free pattern guide, too, so don’t worry about messing up or failing this project because you can make this perfectly even on the first try.

Materials:

• Assorted fabric
• Background fabric
• Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
• Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
• Ruler
• Needle and thread
• Iron, for pressing
• Sewing machine
• Pattern (Click here to download the pattern)

Directions:

Step 1

Print the pattern and cut the fabric to size, then get 4 print squares, and lay them out into 2 rows. Place a print Square on the side and bottom of the square at the lower right corner, then place another square on the space between those added squares, and fill the remaining corner spaces with background squares.

Step 2

Stitch them per row, press the seams open, stitch the rows to each other, and make another block. For the other block, lay a background strip vertically on the side of a large background square, then place a print square at the bottom of the strip and a background strip at the bottom of the large square horizontally.

Step 3

Stitch them together, then make sure to press the seams open, and make another block. Lay and assemble the blocks as demonstrated in the video, then stitch them per row, and the rows to each other making sure to press as you go.
