INEC Dismisses Allegations of Favouritism
In response to recent allegations, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims of favouritism in the upcoming governorship election in Kogi state.
The Allegation
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) had alleged a plot to manipulate the November 11 governorship election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmed Ododo.
INEC’s Response
In a statement, INEC clarified that the accusation of three of its staff maliciously reconfiguring BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) machines at the Government House in Lokoja is “untrue.”
- The individuals mentioned are not involved in BVAS configuration, and they are not in Kogi state at the moment.
- Mr. Nicholas Ocholi is stationed at INEC’s Ondo State office in Akure.
- Ibrahim Egbunu is attending to a family member hospitalized in Abuja.
- Mohammed Adara retired from INEC last year and is no longer a staff member.
BVAS Configuration
INEC emphasized that BVAS machine configuration is carried out exclusively in their offices in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states. These processes are professionally handled by teams deployed from the national headquarters in Abuja.
Disregard Fake News
INEC urges the public to disregard the story as fake news and appeals to political parties to refrain from engaging in malicious rumor mongering.
