🌱 Tuesday Morning Files Bankruptcy + New Lodging Project Coming 2025 - Patch

Morning, everybody. I'm here with your fresh copy of the Hoover Patch newsletter, filled with all the things you need to know about what's happening locally.

Also, FYI: I wanted to let you know that Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Hoover Patch newsletter and make it their own. We want to pass the torch to someone truly local and in-the-know to write about Hoover long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

But first, today's weather:

A strong afternoon t-storm. High: 76 Low: 40.

Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. Discount retailer Tuesday Morning officially filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday to start cleaning and serving heritage marketers in the future in a profitable manner. The Dallas-based chain plans to close stores in low-traffic areas and focus on the higher ones to build a more loyal base with its customers. Ten locations in Alabama are set to close, including the location in Hoover at 1705 Montgomery Hwy. South. (AL.com)
  2. On Tuesday night, the Hoover school board agreed to hire two new landscaping companies to take over services for district schools, Steven's Wack N Sack Lawn Service and Thrive Outdoor of Fort Payne. The Board of Education's contract with Axon Industry of Bessemer ended, and four companies submitted a qualifying bid. These two were the winners serving 11 schools and six campuses. Axon Industry will still be providing services at the Farr Administration building. The annual contract for all three companies will be at about $340,000; this is only $20,000 more than the previous contract with Axon and provides more services that were initially billed separately. (Hoover Sun)
  3. Hoover has become the target for a new boutique bed and breakfast tentatively opening in 2025. Real estate broker and developer Jordan Masaeid-Hosey has now set her sights on Hoover to introduce an Airbnb-style rental service for travelers – she is finishing her first of these projects located in Helena this coming May. Lodging is intended for those traveling in larger groups who don't want to go through hotels and motels, but rather for travelers who want Hallmark southern hospitality. Masaeid-Hosey is also looking for spa, dining, and bar partners to make the future Brock's Gap BNB an experience to remember. (AL.com)

Today in Hoover:

  • Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Luncheon At Hoover Country Club (11:15 AM)

From my notebook:

  • Vintage Market Days is hosting "Oh Lovely Days," a three-day event featuring live music, food trucks, and stands with jewelry, home decor, and vintage goods! This event will run from Feb. 16-18 at the Finley Center; parking is free. (City of Hoover via Twitter)
  • On Wednesday, schools celebrated National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day as everyday attempts are made to bridge the gap between law enforcement officers and the youth. More than being a presence in the schools, these officers work to build relationships with the students and staff. (Hoover Police Department via Facebook)
  • HPL Galleries announced its 2023 Southern Voices Artist as Sarah Garden Armstrong and her exhibit "Works on Paper," which will be viewable from Feb. 8 to Mar. 31. Armstrong's lecture and reception will be on Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Library Theatre. (The Library Theatre via Facebook)

Alrighty, you're all good for today. I'll be in your inbox tomorrow morning with a new update!
